Dales is pleased to have designed and manufactured a curved aluminium fascia with raking soffit and supports for the new Levenmouth Station Building, known as the ‘Pebble’. The aluminium was given the appearance of rusted steel using Powdertech’s Evolution™ ‘Peat Fire polyester powder coating, which was provided to a marine specification due to the project’s coastal location. The aluminium eaves system was expertly fitted to a high standard by AJ Cladding of Hamilton.
The project was affectionately christened the ‘Pebble’, owing to its curved appearance. The elliptical-shaped structure features a curved fascia with a raked soffit, presenting a unique challenge due to its complex design. Thanks to the exceptional efforts of our factory colleagues, the management and fixing team at AJ Cladding, combined with timely assistance from Powdertech, we were able to work to the client’s demanding time-frame without compromising on quality.
Dales are supplying our Aluminium Fascia Soffit System for the new Leven Station Building.
The station will serve as a gateway to the rail network for local communities, after over 50 years of the Levenmouth passenger railway being closed. It will be one of two stations on the Levenmouth Rail Link, and is part of a broader £117 million project that began in January 2022. The project includes the construction of Leven Station, Cameron Bridge Halt, 9km of track, and infrastructure upgrades such as 35km of rail and 75,000 tonnes of ballast. The new service is expected to be very popular, with plans for around 37 trains to run daily between Edinburgh and Levenmouth.
The project prioritises environmental sustainability by reusing materials and installing bat boxes to protect local wildlife. The line is also being prepared for future electrification to support Scotland’s goal of achieving a net-zero emissions railway by 2045. This aligns with Dales’ commitment to environmental sustainability, particularly through the use of aluminium and the principles of the Closed-loop Recycling scheme, which reduces carbon emissions by promoting circular recycling. The Architect for the project is Atkins Design & Engineering Solutions. The Main Contractor is AmcoGiffen, with AJ Cladding providing a supply & fix package for the Dales aluminium eaves system for subcontractor, CK Cladding.
