Dales Fabrications is proud to be contributing to the transformation of Fanshawe Road in Cambridge – a development that brings together thoughtful design, sustainability, and much-needed new homes for the city.

The installation of our Entrance Canopies is now complete, with our solar shading systems due to be installed as the project progresses.

Project overview:

Known as City Reach, the Fanshawe Road redevelopment will provide 84 new homes, replacing ageing post‑war buildings that were no longer practical to maintain. The scheme includes 76 apartments across four buildings, along with eight houses positioned along the eastern and western edges of the site. Delivered by the Cambridge Investment Partnership, the project responds to the city’s growing need for affordable, sustainable housing.

Of the 84 homes, 45 will be council-owned, including 34 offered at around 60% of market rent and 11 at 80%, helping more residents access secure, high-quality housing. The remaining 39 homes for market sale will support the delivery of future council housing and community infrastructure.

The development has been designed to meet Passivhaus‑equivalent performance standards and the ‘Cam Standard’, placing a strong emphasis on low energy use, thermal comfort and long‑term resilience. Gas‑free homes, high‑performance insulation, MVHR systems, communal air‑source heat pumps, solar PV panels and biodiverse green roofs all contribute to a more sustainable way of living. The scheme also includes improved public spaces and new play areas to create a welcoming environment for residents.

Dales Involvement:

Dales aluminium Entrance Canopies, finished in RAL 8019 Matt, are now in place across the site. They sit neatly within the surrounding brickwork and provide practical shelter while improving the appearance of each entrance. We are pleased to be working with Roweaver Developments, who have delivered an expert installation on the delivery of the works to date.

As the development moves forward, our aluminium Solar Shading Systems – also finished in RAL 8019 Matt – will be installed. These will play an important role in managing solar gain, helping to keep internal temperatures stable and reducing the risk of overheating. This supports the project’s wider environmental goals and contributes to long‑term energy efficiency and resident comfort.

We’re pleased to be supporting a project that adds to Cambridge’s housing supply while raising the standard for sustainable development. As the next phase progresses and our solar shading systems are introduced, Fanshawe Road is set to become a strong example of how regeneration can deliver well‑designed, future‑ready homes for communities.
