£60m Motorway Services Features Aluminium Fascia Soffits by Dales-eaves

A new concept in motorway services recently opened at Skelton Lakes, Leeds at J45 on the M1. Powder coated aluminium fascia soffits designed & manufactured by Dales-eaves were used on the £60m development. Using both Autodesk Revitt & 3D CAM software Dales were able to reduce their lead times whilst improving manufacturing accuracy.

The aluminium fascia soffits created interesting design challenges for manufacture because the roofs form multiple-sine waves, that are also tapered in plan. Architects Architecture 519 intended the roofs reflect and compliment the soft undulations of the local landscape.

Cawston Roofing Limited placed the order for the aluminium products with Dales-eaves because of the reduced lead times Dales offered. This was critical in ensuring the Services opened on time.

Skelton Lakes Services lies on J45 of the M1, next to the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone. It provides a ‘Key-gateway’ to encourage investment into the Enterprise Zone, Aire Valley Corridor and East Leeds area. It was developed at a cost of £60m by Extra MSA Group  and required three main contractors for construction.

The building design by Architecture 519 included extensive, sympathetic landscaping. To reduce the development’s environmental impact green roofs, supplied by ABG-Geosynthetics, were used throughout. The roof edges were finished with aluminium fascia soffits by Dales.

Dales are pleased to have contributed to such an important, transport-infrastructure project. Dales provided over 1.4km of aluminium fascias to the extensive, gently-curved roofs. Over 600m of aluminium wall copings were also supplied by Dales, along with aluminium rainscreen cladding and privacy screens.
