February Update 2024

Feb 12, 2024 | News, People

Our February 2024 update is here!

The 5th of 11th of February this year is National Apprenticeship Week. This week is a wonderful opportunity to honour and acknowledge the accomplishments of our apprentices, as well as the positive influence apprenticeships have on communities, businesses, and the economy. The theme for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is ‘Skills for Life.’

Our apprentice team represents a wide spectrum, from craft to degree-level apprentices, to those who have recently embarked on their apprenticeships to others who now hold permanent positions within the business. We believe apprenticeships play a crucial role in bridging the divide between formal education and practical work experience, making this year’s theme feel particularly fitting. To celebrate we have been sharing interview profiles of our apprentice team across our social media, which are linked below. We also sat down for video interviews with 4 of our apprentices, which can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, MP Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, visited Dales. Maggie was shown around Dales offices, factory, and paint plant where she met and spoke with six of Dales former & current apprentices. Through the visit, she was able to see first-hand apprenticeships across a spectrum of levels, from traditional craft apprenticeships to degree-level programmes.

Speaking during the visit, Maggie remarked: “It is clear that Dales are not only investing in the future of their workforce but also in our community as a whole.”

Dales investments were highlighted during the Finance Bill debate on the 2023 Capital Investement Superdeduction, reported in Hansard. Maggie Throup MP, Member of Parliament for Erewash, spotlighted Dales recent investment in a new SafanDarley 4m Hybrid press brake, which was installed in the larger of our two factories in February 2023.

The 4m press brake was purchased as part of our rolling investment programme. We were able to claim a super-deduction, the predecessor of full expensing, This meant that we were able to purchase additional tooling simultaneously, which has been an invaluable investment.

Oliver joined Dales in October 2022, working full-time in our paint plant whilst studying a Level 2 Supply Chain & Warehouse apprenticeship delivered by DBC training. Finishing his apprenticeship with a distinction is a testament to Oliver’s hard work & dedication, and we are excited to have him on board as a permanent team member.

Oliver’s achievement furthers our commitment to continuing our apprenticeship programme.
