One approach to achieving L2 compliance involves proving that the average solar load per unit floor area is not greater than 25W/m2 when subjected to a given level of irradiance.
Appendix H of L2, which explains the procedure fully, requires a reduction factor to be incorporated into the calculation. It does not however offer a reduction factor for brise soleil. Based on an overhang of 50% of the depth of the window on a south facing facades, the following correction factors can be used for this method of calculation. |
| |
| |
Correction factor 0.38
Very wide openings. (ie. where the width of the window and solar shade are at least 5 times the height of the window). |
| |
| |
Correction factor 0.45
Wide openings. (ie. where the width of the window and solar shade are at least twice the height of the window). |
| |
| |
Correction factor 0.52
Square openings. (ie. where the width of the window and solar shade is equal to the height of the window). |
| |
| |
Correction factor 0.63
Narrow openings. (ie. where the width of the window and solar shade is less than the height of the window).
